Always Reppin' The Hart.
Hart is one of the most recognized names in freestyle Motocross history, born on July 17 1975 in Seal Beach, California.
Hart was raised by his father Tom Hart in Las Vegas, Nevada, and is the eldest of two siblings. His father bought him his first motocross bike when he was only four years old in hopes of spending some quality time with his son. However, what had originally started as a father and son pastime quickly turned into Carey’s passion. By the time he entered his first local race as an amateur he was hooked and by high school graduation, Carey Hart was a professional Motocross rider racing the AMA Supercross circuit.
On his early Supercross days he has said: "I rode supercross for three seasons and really wasn't getting a whole lot out of racing. I did pretty decent my last season riding but nobody wanted to give me any help, so it was either change things up or quit altogether."
Carey grew bored with Supercross and started riding with a group of guys who were interested in a more creative and expressive form of Motocross. Freestyle motocross was initially more of a sideshow for the guys, However its popularity continued to grow and in 1998 the Freestyle motocross movement was born. From the sport’s inception, Carey was one of the most innovative riders in the sport.
FMX exploded with Carey among the guys leading the way. Carey has pushed his body and the bike to its limits, Many of the extraordinary tricks in the sport today are possible because of Hart. Carey was the first rider to publicly perform BMX trick the Superman seat grab at the first IFMA events in 1998-99. He was also the first person to perform the invert superman seat grab at the 1999 Gravity Games, It was named the now infamous "Hart Attack".
At the 2000 Gravity Games Carey etched his name in the record books as the first rider ever to complete a back flip on a 250cc motorcycle (Briefly named the Hart Breaker). Many people credited Hart with the first "attempt" of a backflip as he over-roated his flip and suffered a hard landing displacing Hart off the seat. The stunt got the world’s attention; it was even featured on Ripley’s Believe It or Not. Hart also has his own film "Goodtimes with Carey Hart" directed by Jonny Vegas. The film tells the true life story of Hart's amazing career, how he accomplished the unimaginable back flip, and how he elevated his sport like few in history have.
At the 2001 X-Games Carey attempted the backflip once again for the best trick competition but suffered a bad crash, coming off his bike at the beginning of the rotation. The crash was recently voted the 3rd worst crash in X-Games history, However on the plus side it was here he met his future wife, singer P!nk. Mike Metzger & Travis Pastrana both completed backflips at the 2002 Gravity Games using ramps (not dirt to dirt like Hart.)
Hart got the monkey off his back at the 2003 X-Games by completing the backflip in the best trick competition, Carey came 2nd behind Mike Metzger who landed a no footed backflip. Wether people credit Hart with completing or attempting the first backflip, nobody will deny Carey catapulted the sport to a whole new level with a stunt previously thought impossible.
Carey has travelled the globe on a quest to put freestyle motocross on the map, FMX now has worldwide support with success of events such as X-Games, Gravity Games and the Dew Tour. Along the way he has jumped the trailer park in Kid Rock’s video “Bawitdaba” and saw his dream to play bass with the band Pennywise come true on the 2000 Australian Warped Tour, He has appeared in P!nk's ‘Just Like A Pill’ , ‘So What’ and 'Raise Your Glass' Videos.
His popularity has helped increase exposure for the sport of Motocross.
Hart has been featured in nationwide ad campaigns for Ford, Dunkin Dougnuts, Fox, DVS, T-Mobile and Mountain Dew as well as in such print publications as Paper Magazine, Teen People, EXPN The Magazine, Rolling Stone, Prick, Skinnie and has graced the covers of numerous Motocross & tattoo magazines.
He has starred in ESPN/Touchstone Pictures’ IMAX film, Ultimate X and has cameo appearances in Columbia Pictures’ xXx and Touchstone Pictures’ Charlie’s Angels II & Carey was cast in the VH1 reality show The Surreal Life.
In 2004 Carey’s passion for tattoos turned into a business venture, when he teamed up with John Huntington to start Hart & Huntington Tattoo Company. H&H first opened their doors in the Palms Casino, Las Vegas. Shortly after Hart took over 100% of the company.
Hart and that ink addicition: "I knew at a young age I wanted to get tattooed. I remember in first and second grade I'd draw on my arms all day long at school, come home and my dad would yell and scream at me. Then I got my first tattoo about a week before my 18th birthday. Just like most people's, it's really bad. It had this skull and flames and my old race number and it was on my chest. It's pretty rock 'n' roll. I really started getting heavily tattooed around 21, 22. I did both sleeves inside of a year and then a few months after that I started on my back, and on my back out it just kept snowballing."

On June 26th 2005 in Mammoth Lakes, California, P!nk proposed using a pitboard where she wrote 'Will You Marry Me?' , Hart initially ignored the sign but second time round the board said 'I'm Serious'. Hart ditched the race to accept the proposal.
Hart: "I knew within the first few weeks after meeting her that I wanted to be with her for the rest of my life," Hart has said that it is humility that binds them. "I ride dirt bikes, she sings; but I'm still the same white-trash kid, and she's the same girl from Philly,"
They married at sunset, on January 7th 2006 on a Costa Rican beach at the Four Seasons Resort on the Papagayo peninsula.
In 2007 Hart created his first Supercross team which saw him team up to create the H&H/Rockstar moto team which included him as a team rider, each year the team has grown stronger under Hart & Kenny Watson's management and is now one of the most popular and lifestyle driven teams to hit Supercross. In 2011, Carey welcomed a new title sponsor Dodge Motorsports who entered the Supercross space for the first time.
In February 2008 Hart announced along with his wife that they had separated, stating: "This decision was made by best friends with a huge amount of love and respect for one another" .
Also in 2008, he teamed up with Cory McCormack, Jason Giambi, Benji & Joel Madden to create Las Vegas’ Hottest Night club Wasted Space, Wasted Space represents the ultimate depiction of the decadent rock n' roll lifestyle. The first anti-club of its kind, Wasted Space melded the high-end rock n' roll culture with fashion, art and design creating a one of a kind atmosphere and nightlife experience.
The club was designed by Hart, McCormack and Zeff Design. Hart hand-picked one of his favourite L.A. artists to create a 30-foot hand-made mural of vintage rock show posters and flyers with the signature Wasted Space winged microphone logo stenciled over them. The 5,000 square-foot nightclub held 400-500 people, had 17 tables/booths in the club itself, and five more in the 24-hour Wasted Lounge. The unique sound system offered a full nightclub sound package and the ability for live performers to rock the house every night of the week.
The venue had two signature drinks:
-- "Hart Attack" - named after Hart's famous record-breaking mid-air handstand on a 250cc motorcycle, the drink consisted of Jameson, Red Bull, cranberry and a float of Jagermeister.
-- "Sunday Bloody Sunday" - named after legendary U2 song, this was the club's signature Bloody Mary concoction.
(Mid 2010 Wasted Space checked out of the Hard Rock.)
Sadly on August 9 2008, The Hart family suffered a tragic loss as Hart's brother and proud H&H team rider Tony Hart passed away due to injuries sustained in crash in Practice at Stafford Motorway Speedway. He was 21. R.I.P #141
After Tony's death, the XTRM Hart Foundation was formed for a brief fundraising effort in his memory. The Foundation's aim was to increase the awareness around motocross safety and raise money to purchase airfences to use during supermoto races. Red and black wristbands were created to symbolize The Hart Foundation and given to those who donated to the Fund. P!nk supported Carey through the loss of his younger brother.
The same year P!nk performed at Wasted Space on NYE and in March 2009 Hart & P!nk confirmed their reconciliation. (They never divorced). The couple's friendship and love for each other is stronger than ever, and clear for everybody to see, Tru Luv lasts forever.
2009 also saw Hart team up with PMG to launch the Hart and Huntington truck team. Hart finished 6th in his rookie season in the "Lucas Oil Off Road Racing" 2009 Series in the 'Unlimited 2' class. He was also nominated "Rookie of the Year". The H&H/PMG team won the following awards in their first season competing in the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series: Race Driver of the Year, Team of the Year & Mechanic of the Year aswell as many securing over 40 podium finishes, again the team continues to grow year by year.
In November 2010 Hart & P!nk announced they are expecting their first child together and on June 2 2011 P!nk gave birth to their daughter Willow Sage Hart.
The couple released a few shots of their daughter to stop the family being harassed for the first shot, The money paid to the Harts was donated to children's' charities, among them one of their favourites the Ronald McDonald House and Autism Speaks.
They also released a statement clearly stating they do not consent or wish their daughter to be pictured and do not consent to magazines/blogs using paparazzi photos.
The full statement can be read here: www.pinkspage.com/news/important-note-pnk
In accordance with the Hart's wishes no photos of Hart's daughter will be on this site.
At the 2012 X Games Hart announced his participation of the Moto X Speed & Style event would be his last 11 years since he first competed at the X-Games. Hart said of the occasion in an interview "This is the big one. The day that everyone always dreads, This is the last one.", "I've been heavily involved in my businesses and my body is getting older. It's just a natural progression. I'll always be riding. But, as far as contests, that time has past for me."
Hart got to the Quater-Finals but was elinated by Torronteras. Afterwards Hart was interview and said the following "Obviously, I would've hoped to advance, but I had so much fun and I enjoyed every step of the way, from autograph signings to practice with the guys to talking a bunch of smack between sessions. That's the stuff I'm going to miss. It's awesome being out there riding, but I'm in one piece and I'm going to have a beer with my daughter and wife."
Carey has taken his supercross team to a whole new level for 2013 announcing the joining forces of Hart’s Dodge/Sycuan Casino Racing team with Ricky Carmichael and factory support from Suzuki and Yoshimura research and development forming 'RCH Racing'.
There is no denying Carey’s dedication and passion. He suffered his share of injuries, breaking over 63 bones in his body however like a cat with nine lives, he continues to bounce back and he does it all in the name of progression. The Las Vegas resident is determined to ride, entertain and rock the H&H brand until he stops having fun and hopefully for us, that’s not anytime soon!
